A Healthy Focus on Every Resident

Assurety’s meals are intended to maintain or improve the nutritional status of our residents, support their independence, prevent further illness as well as be delicious. Our pleasant meal times also provide an opportunity for socializing and fun.

We provide nutritionally balanced meals. Our residents have choices, and religious and cultural needs are met. Food likes and dislikes, and allergies are considered. Meals are eaten in a congenial environment, and assistance is given to residents who need it. We offer each resident three balanced meals, healthy snacks and sufficient fluid intake to maintain proper hydration and health.

Many chronic health conditions have dietary changes as a part of the management regimen. A resident with diabetes, for instance, will have special diet considerations. Our dietitian and staff ensure that our residents with specific dietary needs get the proper nutrition that will help manage their health condition.

Studies show that a good diet in senior years reduces the risk of osteoporosis, high blood pressure, heart disease and certain cancers. Assurety understands this and the unique nutrient and dietary needs of seniors.  For example: As people age, it becomes more important that they eat more fiber, iron, protein and vitamins A, C, folacin. To maintain and improve bone health, seniors should increase their consumption of calcium and Vitamin D. Having strong bones reduces the likelihood of breakage after a fall. Eating foods that are rich in fiber reduces constipation and encourages regularity. It’s also important for the senior to stay hydrated not only by drinking plenty of water each day, but also by eating foods with high water content.

Everyone, young and old alike, should follow a healthy diet for maximum health but the benefits of eating healthy are especially important for our seniors. Delicious healthy food and attention to optimal nutrition make up just one part of Assurety’s comprehensive services and commitment to our senior’s well being.

Aging & Nutrition

Good nutrition is an especially important part of senior health. As people age sensory changes occur including a decline in sight, hearing, smell and taste and this affects nutritional intake and health status. Sensory changes, as well as feelings of loneliness and depression, contribute to decreased appetite, while many elderly people may eat less because of chewing difficulties and fatigue.

Nutritional status may be further compromised by other problems in conjunction with aging including illness, surgery, infection, and medications. So it is important that meals include a variety of foods that are as healthy as possible and are appealing.

A good diet is essential to a senior's well-being and food plays multiple roles in the lives of our residents here at Assurety. Eating an overall healthy diet not only provides the senior the nutrition that they need to function, but offers several health benefits as well.

By eating healthy foods energy levels are boosted, bodily functions are improved, and the immune system is improved so that is more resistance to illness and disease. Good nutrition also increases mental sharpness, leads to higher levels of energy, and faster recovery time from illness.
